Grade 5: Keyboarding
The 5th graders are doing a keyboard in music. We are working on learning the names of the notes & where the notes are located on the keyboard. We are also learning which fingers go on which keys. We have been practicing our first song, & we are almost ready for the next one. We have discovered music is a mix of focus & fun.
Middle School: String Orchestra
All of our sixth, seventh and eighth grade students take on a string instrument and join our string orchestra. The children have class twice per week for 45 minutes with an instructor who is an accomplished, performing violinist. The students are happily surprised at how quickly they learn to play. They will tell you that being in the band has taught them many things, such as how to read music, keep a beat, concentrate, think creatively, work on a team, persevere, and manage practice time. So far, our middle school string orchestra has played for various school functions. Soon, the children hope to play at some community events.
Kindergarten: Pumpkin Fun
Students are celebrating Halloween in music class by playing a game called "Five Little Pumpkins."
Middle School: Practicing for the Spring Concert
In this short video, the middle school students are practicing one of their pieces of music, Ode to Joy, for the Spring Concert. It's amazing how far they have come knowing that none of these students ever played a string instrument before this school year.
Grade 1: Spring Music Show Practice
Grade 1 students are rehearsing one of their favorite songs for the Spring Music Show. They love singing "She'll be Coming Round the Mountain" and taking turns playing the instruments that go with the song.
Grades 2 & 3: Winter Wonderland
Students learned the lyrics to the song "Walking in a Winter Wonderland." Later, they performed for their families at our Holiday Show.
Grade 4: Nutcracker
Students practiced for the holiday concert by playing the drums, woodblocks, cymbals and triangles to the "March" from the Nutcracker ballet.
