Eagle Creek Academy
Middle school: Speedball
The students are playing speedball outside on a nice day! Speedball is a mix between soccer and handball.
Middle School: Hungry, Hungry Hippos
Students played a live version of Hungry Hungry Hippos, the board game in which the little plastic hippos consume as many marbles as they can in a short period of time. In our live version, we used children on scooters as the hippos, laundry baskets for the mouths, and balloons for the marbles. The children pushed forward to grab the balloons with their baskets. Then a partner towed them back with a rope to stash their balloons in a container. The team with the most balloons won the game. It was a really fun change of pace!
Grades 2 & 3: Floor Hockey
The students enjoyed playing a friendly game of floor hockey with the equipment donated by the Detroit Red Wings Foundation. They learned about the equipment, the safety rules, and the different strategies of the game.
Grades 4 & 5: Capture the Flag
Students are playing a game of Capture the Flag. The object of the game is to capture the opposing team's flag, or in this case a rubber chicken. Through this fun game, students learn about teamwork, practice their offensive and defensive strategies, and develop coordination.
Grade 4 & 5: Practice Makes Perfect!
Students are practicing throwing and catching over the volleyball net. Some groups never dropped their ball! Great skills!
Grades 1: Habitat Loss
During their regular class, the first grade students inquired about various endangered animals and learned that one reason animals become endangered is the threat to their habitat. This game allowed the students to role play and explore the issue of habitat loss in a fun way.
Kindergarten: Basketball with a Twist
The students enjoyed a game called Backpack Basketball. Six students carried net basket bags of different colors, and all other students had to throw the colored sponge balls in the matching baskets. It's our new favorite game!
Middle School: Volleyball
Students learn to bump, set and spike, as well as how to rotate in and out, during competitive games of volleyball.
